Orthocrat Announces:  The George Washington University Hospital Purchases TraumaCadTM for Orthopedic Preoperative Planning

Columbia, MD – September 27, 2008. Orthocrat, Ltd announced today that hat The George Washington University Hospital has purchased TraumaCadTM, a web-based pre-operative planning and digital templating software solution.

Orthopaedic surgeons have traditionally used x-ray films and acetate overlays to determine the size of prosthetic implants when planning for joint-replacement surgery.  With the adoption of digital imaging technologies for x-rays, TraumaCad will allow the orthopaedic surgeon to perform preoperative planning from any computer, with the potential for greater accuracy.

TraumaCad will allow busy orthopedic surgeons to much more precisely plan for joint-replacement surgery,” said Andrew S. Holmes, M.D., Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.  “With a full suite of software tools for joint-replacement planning, deformity-correction and trauma surgery planning, we expect to elevate the level of clinical care that our surgeons can provide for our patients, who come from every corner of the world to this international city.”

"GW Hospital has been a leader and one of the early adopters of digital imaging and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS). While this technology has eliminated lost studies and made images more readily and rapidly available to clinicians such as orthopaedic surgeons, having leading edge tools such as TraumaCad for post-processing and accurately planning complex procedures will be of great help to the busy surgeon and radiologist," says Robert K. Zeman, M.D., Chairman of Radiology and Radiation Oncology at GW Hospital, and professor of Radiology at the George Washington University Medical Center.

Zeev Glozman, Orthocrat’s founder and CEO expects that “institutions of the caliber of GW Hospital will play a critical role in demanding that companies like Orthocrat continually improve their products.  We are honored that GW Hospital chose TraumaCad over competing products, and look forward to a successful implementation.”

“We don’t expect to be just passive users of this software,” said Dr. Holmes.  “We expect to push the envelope while providing a steady stream of ideas for improving this product, which ultimately will benefit not just the busy surgeon, but also our patients.”

TraumaCad will be integrated with the digital imaging systems at GW Hospital, allowing orthopaedic surgeons and residents to perform pre-surgical planning from any computer, anywhere.

Orthocrat will present its advanced orthopedic-templating solutions, including an auto-hip capability that dramatically reduces the time spent by a surgeon in pre-surgical planning, at the upcoming 94th Annual Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), from November 30 through December 5, in Chicago.
